Cassette Kids

Remember cassettes? Remember that sense of excitement as money was handed over, the maniacal shredding of the shrink wrap, looking for that loose end, any sort of purchase, so you could pop open that little plastic coffin and gorge your ear canals on tasty, magnetic-tape-striding hi-fi tunes?
I don't, because i'm not that old. First 'music' I bought was some variation of the Hit Machine CD series. Went very well with my 10 second anti-shock equipped discman and generic sports brand sweat pants. Wild times.
The Cassette Kids must remember cassettes quite fondly (segue!!!). These four young peeps, most recently seen chopping their way around Australia's indy band-rooms, quite recently appeared in the most erroneous of my favourite online haunts.
Just the other day, the Cassette Kid's video for their new single 'Spin' debuted on Pitchfork (P4K for the syllabically uninformed). This made me think 'damn' and 'how did that happen' and 'damn how DID that happen'
I asked my 'top secret industry source' who works at Sony and is named Cameron for some hot knowledge nuggets relating to this confuffling chain of events; just how does an uber-produced, delightfully cheesy, major label signed, GOOD-LOOKING Sydney-band get their video debuted upon the official American altar of all things musically snobby, unnecessarily sarcastic and, well, beardy???
He didn't divulge their nefarious methods but methinks a seasonal harvest hamper of fresh local produce and two soiled towels stolen from backstage during a recent AnCo show may have sealed the deal.
So i'll confess that while I haven't actually been 'giving much of a f**k' about their output to date, CK's stars are aligning. Using naught but a stale crumpet stuffed into a used old toilet roll, i have read these messages of the Cosmos, scribbled them down on a KFC refresher towel (not as easy as it sounds) and can present for you now;
"A Few Reasons You Should Watch Out For The Cassette Kids in 2010: A Boy's Own Bullet Point Adventure"
- Krozm produced the video clip for Spin. These guys make really weird shit, having done churned out visual non-sequiters for the Juggers, Van She and Damn Arms among others. Damn Arms video for Homewrecker is one of my favourite local vids of recent years, so tick there for taking a punt. And Pitchfork liked it. Whatevs.

-A majority of their upcoming debut album has been produced by two of Australia's baddest-assest electronic producers - Mikey from Van She (aka: Arithmatix) and Diamond Cut.

-Good remix packs! Russ Chimes ftw.
-Hell, they've already supported The Presets, not much else to do in Australia really. Might as well retire to Coffs Harbour or something.

-They're playing some pretty hype SXSW showcases this week, plus headlining some schmick gigs in London. Record of the Day, the definitive daily bible for lazy talent talent scouts everywhere, is getting behind the action too. Expect industry playa playaz to be in attendance.
- Kat from the band is writing smooth electro-pop jams with Bob Rifo of the Bloody Beetroots, meaning
a) My life long ambition to see the lead singer of Cassette Kids wearing a shiny spider-man mask is one step closer to fruition
b) Maybe she can convince Bob to stop making derivatively aweful pop-punk with Steven Lame-oki-San
